5.1 School outreach & education
We provide opportunities for young people to gain experience in
the workplace, providing them with valuable insight which helps
raise aspirations and establish goals.
>> Factory tours
We delivered two factory tours of
our manufacturing plant in York and
Kenfig to students of the University
of York and Bridgend College,
respectively
>> Work experience placements
We continued to provide work
experience for young people, who
spent time with our teams taking
part in structured, meaningful
activities. Since 2022, around 20
young people from Port Talbot
have completed work experience
with us across various roles.
Feedback highlights the valuable
insight we provide into the modular
construction industry, with over
50% expressing interest in a career
in off-site modular construction

Where members of our team
provided insight into opportunities
within the modular building sector
and supported with CV writing and
interview techniques
>> University placements
We provided three-month
internships for two postgraduate
students at the University of York,
enabling them to gain valuable
industry experience as part of
their studies. We also collaborate
with Swansea University and
Loughborough University on R&D
projects
>> School and university outreach
Subject matter experts from across
our businesses have continued to
deliver outreach activities, as well as
factory visits and site tours
>> Public and industry events
We play an active role in
supporting local business and
industry initiatives, including
being a founding member of the
Modular and Portable Building
Association (MPBA) which
champions modern methods of
construction and the continual
development of quality, health,
safety and environmental practices
These activities help support improved learning, skills and employability, as
well as promoting career paths addressing skills shortages in our sector.
