WheelPower
Wernick has supported WheelPower, the national charity
for Wheelchair Sport for many years. Providing funding
to purchase specialist sports equipment and upgraded
equipment for their onsite accommodation facilities,
most recently providing a donation for new shower
chairs and hoist equipment.
This equipment has made a huge difference, enabling
wheelchair users to remain independent when using on-site
facilities and empowering more physically disabled people
to attend sport events which include the Inter Spinal Unit
Games for recently spinal cord injured people and National
Junior Games for physically disabled children.
Sport and physical activity provide tremendous benefits
for people with disabilities; improve health and physical
well-being, increase self-esteem and confidence and improve
social opportunities, which result in a better quality of life
and independence. While sport can develop confidence and
improve your health, it’s also a great way to put a smile on
the faces of those taking part.
Last year, WheelPower’s facilities at Stoke Mandeville
Stadium were used for sport by disabled people on 22,610
occasions.
Chesed Hub
Wernick contributed to the cost and construction of two
modular buildings for the United Synagogue’s ‘Chesed
Hub’ in Bushey, Hertfordshire.
Chesed, meaning ‘loving-kindness’ or ‘welfare,’ is at the
heart of the Chesed department’s mission to support
both the United Synagogue’s members and the wider
community. This Chesed Hub serves as a vital resource,
housing a kosher food bank and a dedicated office and
welfare space for its staff and community volunteers.
Thanks to Wernick’s support, the Chesed Hub provides
over 170 families with weekly parcels of essential food
and household basics, while also preparing freshly cooked
meals for more than 200 people each month. Those
benefiting from these services include individuals facing
financial hardship, asylum seekers and those who are
seriously ill, elderly or housebound.
5.7 Community cohesion
Wernick Hire uses the Considerate Constructors Scheme
(CCS) to monitor and evaluate the local environmental and
social performance of its depots, allowing us to continually
improve both our own operations and service offering
to our customers. In 2024, Wernick Hire achieved an
‘Excellent’ score rating from the Considerate Constructors
Scheme for all its depots, improving the ‘Very Good’
performance from 2021. The depots were complimented
on their involvement with their respective communities,
seeking customer feedback to evaluate performance,
innovation within their product offering and good
housekeeping which was observed during their depot visits.
CCS commented: “During their 10-year registration with
the Considerate Constructors Scheme, Wernick Hire have
demonstrated an undeniable passion for the Code of
Considerate Practice and for supporting the construction
industry.”
