8.1 Carbon management plan
8.2 Group Executive Board
Our carbon management plan sets out our strategy and a framework to
manage and reduce our carbon emissions.
Our Group Executive Board is responsible for the strategic
direction and implementation of our carbon management plan.
It identifies the Group’s updated carbon baseline and sets clearly defined objectives. The plan
focuses on key themes, including behavioural change, improving the energy performance of
our assets, better use of data and monitoring and introducing low-carbon sources of energy.
The remit of the board includes strategic oversight and delivery
of the carbon management plan, as well as communicating the
objectives and actions of the plan to internal and external audiences.
8.3 2024 projects
Wernick Group signed up to the ‘Pledge to Net Zero’ campaign, committing our organisation
to take a leadership role in the transition to a net zero carbon economy.
We have aligned our net zero target with the Science Based Targets Initiative’s (SBTi) 1.5°C pathway.
Our target is to reduce our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and to be net zero by 2040. As
the Group grows, our absolute emissions have plateaued, but our carbon intensity has reduced by 18%,
demonstrating that our phased approach is delivering carbon reductions against increasing operations
Throughout the previous 12 months, we have successfully initiated and
completed eight projects delivering energy efficiency, carbon reductions and
enhanced resilience across our operations:
>> Installed a 118kWp photovoltaic panel system at our Kenfig factory, powering 28% of the
site. Wernick Hire depot in Neath installed a 64 kWp system, delivering nearly 60% of the
site’s energy
>> Generated over 150,000 kWh of renewable energy across our estate, equating to
4% of our overall annual consumption
>> Introduced plug-in hybrid electric vehicles within our company car policy. Expanded our
vehicle recharging infrastructure, which will extend to 100% of our group locations by the
end of 2025, enabling company vehicle drivers to confidently transition to electric vehicles
with a further roll out of home charging for staff
>> Introduced EPC A-rated offices within our estate, moving towards an EPC A+
rating in 2025
>> Launched our new Social Value plan, further broadening the scope of how we can
improve the environment and communities within which we operate
